Botanical Pharmacy prepares individually tailored dental medicines according to prescriptions from your GP or dentist when commercially available options may not suit your needs.

Prescribed preparations may be used for conditions such as oral thrush, ulcers, pain, infection, dry mouth and mucositis. Your prescriber may also consider them for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, a sensitive gag reflex, or irritation from dentures or orthodontic appliances.

Individual formulations may be considered for mucositis following chemotherapy or radiotherapy, chronic dry mouth associated with medicines or conditions such as Sjögren’s syndrome, thrush associated with dentures, sensitive teeth or gums, or care after a tooth extraction or other dental surgery. They may also be considered when a commercial mouthwash or gel does not provide the prescribed strength or is unsuitable for your needs.

Our compounding pharmacists have undertaken specialised training through the Professional Compounding Chemists of Australia and have experience in preparing individually tailored compounded medicines.

Depending on your prescription, dental preparations may include:

• Mouthwashes – rinses prepared with the prescribed ingredients and strength for use in the mouth.
• Oral gels – preparations applied to a prescribed area in the mouth to allow local contact with the medicine.
• Dental ointments and pastes – thicker preparations applied to the affected gum or oral tissue as directed.
